    <head>Biographical sketch</head>
<p>Shirley Mae Hauptman of Winchester, Virginia was born in 1935 to J. Lantz and Thelma Lewis Hauptman. In 1954, she enrolled in then-Longwood College, and graduated in 1958 with a bachelor's degree in secondary education. While a student at Longwood College, Hauptman served on the Student Standards Committee, was Senior Class President, Business Manager of the Virginian (yearbook), and Secretary of Kappa Delta. Additionally, she was a member of Kappa Delta Pi, Pi Delta Epsilon, Beorc eh Thorn, Chi, Future Teachers of America, Future Business Leaders of America, and the Cotillion Club. In 1959, Hauptman married Hunter M. Gaunt, a physician from Winchester, Virginia.</p>  </bioghist>

<p>This scrapbook, compiled by Shirley Mae Hauptman while a student at Longwood College, was later acquired by Nancy Shelton during her tenure with the Longwood University Department of Alumni Relations. It is unknown when this collection was transferred to the Greenwood Library Archives.</p>  </custodhist>
