Biographical/Historical Information

Alice Wesley Ivory (1931-1999) was an artist and educator. She worked as an art teacher at the segregated Burley High School in Charlottesville, Va. In 1970, the Blue Ridge School hired Ivory as their first African American teacher to lead the art department.

The exhibit "Beyond Boundaries: The Sculpture of Alice Wesley Ivory" took place at the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center, 14 September to 14 December 2024.
