Biographical Note

Louisa Clarinda Egerton Cameron (1846-1908) of Petersburg, Virginia married future Virginia governor William Evelyn Cameron (1842-1927) on October 1, 1868, in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and they eventually had three children. William fought for the Confederacy during the American Civil War, and he later served as a Republican governor of Virginia from 1882 to 1886. During his tenure, he repealed the poll tax that disenfranchised African American voters.

External sources:

"Louisa Egerton Cameron", findagrave.com, https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/49498170/louisa-egerton-cameron, accessed on June 1, 2023.

"William Egerton Cameron", findagrave.com, https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/8691735/william-evelyn-cameron, accessed on June 1, 2023.

James Moore and
Dictionary of Virginia Biography,
"William E.
