    <head>Biographical Note</head>
<p>William S. Swecker, Sr. (1925-2012) was born in Crabbottom, Highland County, Virginia. He served as a senatorial page for Virginia State Senator Henry T. Wickham (1849-1943), a longtime state legislator around 1940. He was a graduate of Blue Grass High School, and served in the United States Navy during World War Two, from 1943 to 1945. During that time, he achieved the position and rank of quartermaster second class and accompanied Allied landing ships on D-Day, June 6, 1944. After WWII, Swecker reenlisted and served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. Swecker recieved a B. S. in animal husbandry from Virginia Tech and operated the Shenandoah Insurance Agency in Stuarts Draft, Virginia. He married Ann Stuart McClure in 1954, and they had two children.     <head>Scope and Content</head>
<p>This collection consists of correspondence relating to the appointment of William S. Swecker, Sr., as a Virginia State Senate page to Senator Henry T. Wickham during the late 1930s and early 1940s, personal correspondence between Swecker and other individuals in 1940, an address by Sen. Wickham to the United Daughters of the Confederacy in 1940, an address by Sen. Wickham to the joint session of the Virginia General Assembly in 1940, and autographed print of Sen. Wickham to Swecker.</p>  </scopecontent>
