The coatee is a blue grey color and made of wool with a possibly quilted wool lining. The coatee has gold buttons with palmetto trees and "S.C." The back skirt is split in half with three buttons on each side and a black stripe under each button. On the sleeves there are three smaller buttons set on black strips that are scalloped on one side. Belt loops are present from the button flap. There is a metal numeral two pinned to the front of the black collar. The inside lining is marked "Carolina Rifles" and there is a pocket inside the jacket under the left arm. The coatee was possibly from the 1st South Carolina Rifle Regiment of the Confederate Army during the American Civil War. The condition is fair with some stains, dirt, and moth holes. It was manufactured by Chestnut St., Philadelphia: Jacob Reed's Sons.
