Administrative History

The Stimmel Distilling Company was a distiller of liquors and beers located in Norfolk, Virginia. The company appears in the 1915 and 1916 Norfolk City directories. In 1916, the state of Virginia banned the sale of alcohol, which may explain why the distillery does not appear in subsequent directories.

External Sources:

Norfolk and Portsmouth City Directories, 1851-1931, Sargeant Memorial Collection Digital Collection, Norfolk Public Library, https://cdm15987.contentdm.oclc.org/digital/collection/p15987coll2/, accessed April 27, 2023.

Eaton, Lorraine, "Virginia's Prohibition history,"
The Virginian-Pilot
, November 30, 2008, archived online at https://web.archive.org/web/20100807012038/hamptonroads.com/2008/11/virginias-prohibition-history, accessed April 27, 2023.
 </bioghist>
