    <head>Biographical Note</head>
<p><title render="doublequote">L. Baugh</title> was likely Leonidas Baugh, the editor of the <title render="italic">Abingdon Democrat </title> from 1849 to 1853. In 1853 Leonidas became the postmaster of Abingdon and eventually the deputy clerk of the Washington County Court.     <head>Scope and Content</head>
<p>The L. Baugh Letter is a handwritten missive from a landowner in Abingdon, Virginia, written during the American Civil War. In this letter, Baugh informs Mr. J. G. Wood of Estillville, Virginia, that his property is for sale, not for rent. Baugh suggests Wood trade with the man authorized to contract the sale in order to purchase the home.</p>  </scopecontent>
