    <head>Biographical / Historical</head>
<p>After obtaining a bachelor of arts degree at the College of William and Mary, John S. Carbone earned higher degrees at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, the King College School of Business and Economics, and North Carolina Central University School of Law. Carbone's research on early coastal operations in North Carolina was later incorporated into his book, <title render="italic">The Civil War in Coastal North Carolina</title> (Raleigh, NC: Division of Archives and History, North Carolina Dept. of Cultural Resources, 2001). He is also the author of <title render="italic">A Lawyer's Guide to Understanding Psychiatry</title>.</p>  </bioghist>
