    <head>Biographical Note</head>
<p>"L. Campbell" may be Lewis Campbell, who appears in the 1860 federal census as a resident of the Eagle Hotel in Keene (Cheshire County), New Hampshire. The census describes him as a 57-year-old, retired registrar of deeds, born in New Hampshire.</p>  </bioghist>

    <head>Scope and Content</head>
<p>This collection consists of a single letter written by L. Campbell, of Keene, New Hampshire, and addressed to Mrs. Corbitt on March 31, 1867. Campbell informs Corbitt that he has just returned from her brother's gravesite, then quotes "the moralizing words of the Poet Anon," with a poem beginning with the words, "Upon the journeys of immortal man / The grave's a resting place." Campbell continues with excerpts from other poems, then expresses his willingness to assist Corbitt with the exhumation, identification, and return of her brother's remains. The letter is accompanied by a stamped envelope addressed to "Mr. John Flanagan, Exeter, New Hampshire."</p>  </scopecontent>
