    <head>Biographical Note</head>
<p>Shelton Hardaway Short, III (1926-2005) was a resident of Clarksville, Virginia. He graduated from Hampden-Sydney College (1948, B.A. in History) and the University of Edinburgh, Scotland (1969, Ph.D. in History). He was a Patrick Henry Research Scholar at Hampden-Sydney (1972-1973) and a member of the Society of the Cincinnati, the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities, the Virginia Sons of the American Revolution, and the Sons of Confederate Veterans. Short was a Certified Virginia Tree Farmer in Mechlenburg and Lunenburg counties and served as a director of the Virginia Forests Educational and Research Board.</p>  </bioghist>
