    <head>Biographical Note</head>
<p>Ruth Gerda Alice Gottschalk Hale, daughter of Paul and Meta Gottschalk, was born in Germany on April 26, 1926. She married Charles W. Hale Jr. (1925-2004) on February 14, 1948 and immigrated with Hale to his home in Waiteville (Monroe County), West Virginia. The couple had four daughters and moved frequently, eventually settling in Botetourt County, Virginia. She retained an interest in genealogy and focused her research on the Hale family and on the area of Craig and surrounding counties in Virginia. Ruth G. Hale died on March 25, 2001, and was buried in New Zion Cemetery, Waiteville.</p>  </bioghist>

    <head>Scope and Content</head>
<p>This collection consists of a photocopy of Montgomery County, Virginia cemetery readings compiled by Ruth G. Hale, a resident of Botetourt County, Virginia. The readings (some in manuscript, some in typescript) are arranged by name of cemetery and contain transcriptions of the markings (names, dates, and other information) on each gravestone. Also included are photocopies of a few documents relating to genealogy of the local Hale family.</p>  </scopecontent>
