    <head>Biographical Note</head>
<p>Robert Crockett, son of Samuel and Jane Steele Crockett, was born in 1767. He served as Wythe County court clerk for more than 25 years. Crockett married Jane Lewis Stuart (1780-1855), and the couple would have seven children. Major Robert Crockett died in 1819 and was buried in Saint Johns Lutheran Church Cemetery, Wytheville, Virginia.</p>  </bioghist>

    <head>Scope and Content</head>
<p>This collection consists of a single document appraising the values of enslaved persons and land held by Robert Crockett of Wythe County, Virginia. The assessment lists two enslaved men, aged between 12 and 50, and one enslaved woman, aged between 12 and 50 years, one of those enslaved persons being "subject to fits." Also listed is Crockett's 280-acre farm "lying on the main road at the ford of Reed Creek" with a description of the home and outbuildings thereon, together with another 280-acre tract.</p>  </scopecontent>
