<p>The Norman Douglas Papers were part of a book collection purchased by the University Libraries and transferred to Special Collections in 1974.</p>  </acqinfo>

    <head>Biographical Note</head>
<p>Norman Douglas was born George Norman Douglass, in Austria in 1868. Following his family's relocation to England, he eventually served at the British Embassy in St. Petersburg, Russia, from 1894-1896. Throughout his life, he lived in various parts of Europe, including England and Italy, and traveled extensively. He wrote several novels, including <title render="italic">South Wind</title> (1917), as well as essays and travel pieces. He died in Capri in 1952.</p>  </bioghist>

    <head>Scope and Content</head>
<p>The Norman Douglas Papers contains an apparently unpublished handwritten essay (1943) on a novel by an unknown author. There are also three letters, written between 1929 and 1936, from Florence, Italy. The letters are to E.H. Douglas, Osborn, Lanman Crosby, and the last is unknown. The other contents of this collection includes notes and lists.</p>  </scopecontent>
