    <head>Biographical Note</head>
<p>Robert Graves was a British poet, novelist, critic, and translator. Graves was born in Wimbledon, England, in 1895. Over the course of his lengthy career, he he published  fifty-five collections of poetry, fifteen novels (including <emph render="italic">I, Claudius</emph> in 1934), ten translations, and forty works of nonfiction, autobiography, and literary essays. He spent much of the middle of his life in Majorca and the United States, he eventually returned to England and taught at Oxford. Graves died in 1985.</p>  </bioghist>
