</head>
      <p>Halifax County was named for George Montagu Dunk, second earl of Halifax, who was president of the Board of Trade from 1748 to 1761.  It was formed from Lunenburg County in 1752.

</head>
      <p>Halifax County (Va.) Pleas No. 1, 1752-1755, consist of Part 1 and Part 2 of the pleas heard May Term 1752-March Term 1755.
</p>
      <p>The County Courts and City Courts Order Books recorded all matters brought before the court when it was in session. In some of the counties in Virginia, the Court Order Books were called Pleas.
