      <head>Historical Information
</head>
      <p>Stafford County was named for the English county. It was formed from Westmoreland County in 1664. Part of King George County was added in 1777. The county seat is Stafford.
</p>
      <p>Many pre-Civil War court records were lost to vandalism by Union troops during the Civil War. A few volumes that record deeds, court orders, and wills exist.</p>

</head>
      <p>Deed Books (Libers O, P and S), 1748-1767 and 1780-1786, of Stafford County Court. The deed books record the name of the grantor and grantee, the residence of both individuals and the description of property being sold or transferred.  The volumes also includes wills.  Deed Book Liber O does not contain any wills such as probate records, inventories and appraisements.  The only information legible in Deed Book Liber P are (1754-1761).  The volumes have indexes which contains the first and last names of both parties.  It is arranged alphabetically from A-Z.
