      <head>Biographical Information
</head>
      <p>William Harding Perkins (1780-1826) was born in Buckingham County, Virginia, to William Perkins (1740-1806) and Elizabeth Lee Fearn Perkins (1750-1839). William H. Perkins established his home at "Solitude" in
Buckingham County. Perkins was a tobacco farmer and served as deputy sheriff in Powhatan County, Virginia, and as sheriff of Buckingham County. He married Mildred Walker Merry (1794-1841), and they had five
children: Thomas Fearn Perkins (b. 1820), Catherine Merry Perkins (1821-1889), Eliza Mildred Perkins (b. 1823), William Harding Perkins (1824-1892), and Anne Frances Perkins (1827-1907). William Harding Perkins
represented Buckingham County in the House of Delegates in 1853-1854.

      <p>Papers, 1806-1874, of the Perkins family of Buckingham County, Virginia, consisting of accounts, agreements, estate papers, judicial records, lists, letters, promissory notes, and receipts. Papers detail
William H. Perkins' dealings with merchants in Buckingham County and Richmond, Virginia, including accounts concerning his tobacco. Papers also detail Perkins' other business, legal, and personal matters. Papers
also relate to Perkins' responsibilities as sheriff of Buckingham County and as deputy sheriff of Powhatan County, Virginia. Papers contain accounts and receipts concerning Perkins' estate. Accounts,
correspondence, and receipts of Mildred W. Perkins concern business and legal matters. Papers contain accounts, agreements, judicial records, letters, promissory notes, and receipts relating to other members of
the Perkins family including Ann F. Perkins, Eliza Perkins, Price Perkins, Thomas F. Perkins, and William H. Perkins. Papers also include correspondence to John F. Hansford as deputy sheriff of Buckingham County.
There are also correspondence and lists concerning fines for matters relating to the militia.
