 Biographical/Historical Information

The Penn's Store community, located close to the Henry County line, was founded by Thomas Jefferson Penn, son of James Penn. The 1850 Patrick County census lists Thomas J. Penn, age 40, as a merchant. The tobacco factories and stores owned exclusively by the Penn family and the area developed into an important business center. The sons continued to expand the family interests, several moving into the town of Reidsville, North Carolina.
