The Skeeter for 1916 is the school yearbook for West Point
High School, West Point, King William County, Virginia. This
yearbook is notable because of the photographs and information
concerning the early life of Lewis Burrell "Chesty" Puller
(1898-1971), retired United States Marine Corps Lieutenant
General and veteran of Nicaragua, World War II, and Korea, who
is the most decorated soldier in the history of the Marine
Corps. Puller was born on 26 June 1898 in West Point, Virginia
to Matthew M. and Martha Richardson (Leigh) Puller. He
graduated from West Point High School in 1917 and attended the
Virginia Military Institute for one year. In July 1918, he
enlisted in the Marine Corps, retiring in 1955. He died on 11
October 1971.
