Consisting of accounts, contracts, chancery decrees, deeds, estate records, plats, receipts, and wills, the collection largely relates to land transactions and estate settlements. Also, includes documents concerning the sale and purchase of slaves.

The collection contains the professional, academic and personal papers of William W. Abbot, James Madison Professor of History and Editor of the Papers of George Washington at the University of Virginia. The collection is from 1953 to 1996 and is about 8,150 items, 26 hollinger boxes, and 10 linear feet. It consists of department and personal correspondence with historians, university colleagues, students, friends and academic organizations throughout the United States and around the world. There are also financial papers, lecture notes, reviews, speeches, organization records associated with Abbot's activities while at William and Mary and the University of Virginia, a typescript of his writing, "The Colonial Beginnings of the United States 1607-1763," and communications with publishers relating to books and articles he authored.

The papers of K. Edward Lay, Cary D. Langhorne Professor of Architecture, University of Virginia, ca. 1967-1993, and 1997-1999, ca. 4,300 items (7 Hollinger boxes) consist chiefly of slides and negatives of graduate and undergraduate student projects for the architectural design and architectural community involvement courses taught by Professor Lay. Included in the collection, are spiral bound notebooks containing photographs, drawings and news clippings for various student projects.

The collection contains the combined research papers of Charles L. Sampson and William F. Hellmuth. Sampson compiled and rewrote much of Hellmuth's research, producing short histories on the individual engine companies of the Alexandria Fire Department. Sampson also typescripted many articles from the Alexandria Gazette as well as primary documents like the Auditor's Annual Statement (1893) and correspondence. In addition to the research papers, the collection also contains correspondence from the Columbia Engine Co. #4 and the Alexandria Fire Department, meeting minutes, certificates, articles, and a few pictures. Sampson's research primarily covers the history of the Alexandria Fire Department from its beginning in 1774 with the organization of the Friendship Company to the 1960's. It also bound volumes of minutes, accounts, and other records from various fire companies and scrapbooks of news clippings about the department. The collection also includes Sampson's photographs covering not only fire related subjects but also Alexandria in general.

The book includes artwork from Fukushima elementary school students regarding their emotions following the 3.11 Triple Disaster. It is divided into sections: how they saw the sea, what it would look like to play with friends again, what a safe, peaceful hometown looks like, what their hometown would look like if they had magical powers, and what the future of their hometown looks like. Most of these sections are separated by narrative context about the incident, shared testimonies of the children, and information about how the images were collected.

The Secretary of the Commonwealth, Records, are housed in 290 boxes. The collection is arranged into ten (10) series. Series have been designated for: I Appointment Calendars; II. Correspondence and Supporting Documentation; III. Executive Papers; IV. Registration of State Agency Logos, Devices and Slogans; V. Clemency: Pardon Files; VI. Clemency: Pardon Files-Denied; VII. Extradition Requisitions and Renditions; VIII. Notary Public Register; IX. Restoration of Rights Files; and X. Restoration of Rights Files-Denied. These records include affidavits, agendas, appointment calendars, certificates, executive orders, invitations, judicial records, legal files, letters (correspondence), medical records, memorandums, notes, oaths, petitions, transcripts, warrants and writs. These records primarily document the clemency activities of the Warner Administration (2002-2006).
