This collection contains the records of New River Community Action (NRCA), including administrative records, newspaper archives, awards, and recognitions.

Correspondence, photographs, newspaper clippings, and other items document the career and family of John R. Hutcheson. After earning his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Virginia Polytechnic Institute (VPI), John Redd Hutcheson (1886-1962) began working at the Virginia Agricultural Extension Service in 1914, becoming its director in 1919. Hutcheson was elected as president of VPI in 1945, serving until his nomination as VPI's first chancellor in 1947. The next year he became the first president of the VPI Educational Foundation, Inc. Hutcheson married Eleanor Parrott, with whom he had three children: Eleanor Catlett, John Hutcheson, Jr., and Robert Hutcheson.

The Los Angeles Modern Bartending School Collection includes two bartending guides for students. The untitled "Bartender's Guide" is likely from the 1930s, around 1935 and is presumed to be the first edition. It contains information on wines & wine service, bar preparation and maintenance, spirits, and cocktail recipes. The "277 Standard/100 Tropical Recipes" is a 1944 revised edition and includes cocktail recipes in two sections.

The John E. Duberg Papers span from 1927 to 1980 and include a wide variety of materials reflecting Duberg's career as a research scientist and National Committee for Aeronautics (NACA)/National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) administrator. The bulk of this collection consists of publications and reports. These include reports by Duberg himself and his colleagues, publications by others in the field, and government organizations. The papers also include copies of Duberg's M.S. and Ph.D. theses; drafts of speeches; correspondence; and materials from conferences and workshops attended.

The Brinda Somaya Architectural Collection (2000-2001) comprises The Hecar Foundation's exhibit "Women in Architecture - 2000 Plus" and publications. Somaya is an architect and conservationist in India.

The Black Women at Virginia Tech Oral History Project was a multi-phase research and educational collaborative program of the Virginia Tech University Libraries and the Women's Center at Virginia Tech. The collection includes audiocassette tapes, DAT tapes, floppy disks, background and biographical information, and transcripts of interviews with some of the first Black female students and employees at Virginia Tech. The interviews focus on the entry experience of the individual into the Virginia Tech community and the interviewees' perceptions of the climate and attitudes within the university community, particularly as pertains to race and gender.

The Olive Chadeayne Architectural Collection includes drawings for residences, schools, churches and businesses primarily located in southern California. In addition to Olive Chadeayne's work, the collection also contains over twenty-five drawings by American architect Lillian Rice.

This collection is made up of the personal and family papers of the Wharton and Radford families of Southwestern Virginia. While the bulk of the collection relates to Confederate General Gabriel C. Wharton and Anne (Nannie) Radford Wharton, it contains personal materials such as correspondence, financial documents, and family papers from other family members as well. This collection also contains materials related to Wharton's military service.

This collection contains the papers of William Hewitt Phillips (1918-2009), an aerospace engineer for the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) and National Air and Space Administration (NASA). The collection includes lecture notes, reports and memoranda tracing the development of Phillips' theories while at the Langley Research Center and spans from his work on World War II-era aircraft to the early U.S. space program and beyond. These papers include calculations of various numerical values in relation to various aircraft and spacecraft, as well as drawings and other illustrations. The collection also contains a set of Phillips' official reports, files devoted to lectures delivered by Phillips, and notes from courses and lectures presented by others. Major topics in this collection include aircraft stability and control; gust alleviation; wing theories; types of planes; shuttles; airfoils; gliders; and simulation of space operations (particularly the Lunar Landing Research Facility).

The collection includes two photographs from 1962 of Shelton receiving an "Outstanding Trainee" certificate for his basic training company at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. It also includes a letter from the Fort Jackson Commanding General to VPI President Walter S. Newman about Shelton's award.
