The bulk of this collection consists of items dating from T. Randolph Perkinson's World War I service with Headquarters, 30th Division, as an aide-de-camp to General S. L. Faison. Documents include:

• Letters of recommendation
• A special order
• A battlefield map
• A leave of absence document
• 30th Division and 119th Infantry histories

This collection consists of the three volume Civil War era diary of Union soldier Uri (possibly Uriah) B. Scofield who served with the 18th Connecticut Volunteer Infantry Regiment. The diary entries are not detailed, although some information about regimental activities is provided. Volume I (1864) includes the unit's march through the Shenandoah Valley and mentions the burning of the VMI in June 1864.

A collection of video footage collected by the Office of Communications and Marketing relating to the VMI coeducation court case (United States v. Virginia), concerning coeducation, assimilation planning, and the matriculation of the first female cadets. Includes news clips from national and local news.

This collection consists of completed VMI alumni survey documents asking for a summary of service. Some alumni also submitted additional information.

This collection consists of the accounts of the Battle of the Bulge participation by more than forty VMI alumni. The VMI Class designation ranges from the 1921 to 1946. These accounts were solicited by Robert W. Wentz (VMI Class of 1954) in 1989 to 1990 and formed the basis of an article that was published in the VMI Alumni Review (Summer 1990, Page 14).

The VMI Archives is the official repository for the Institute's collection of permanently maintained photographs. The earliest date from the 1840's and the most recent are digital photos from the current academic year. New items are added regularly.

This collection consists of two documents that concern VMI's claim against the United States government for "damages and destruction of library, scientific appartatus and the quarters of professors in June 1864," while Union troops occupied Lexington, Virginia. VMI was awarded $100,000 in 1915.

This collection consists of completed military service survey forms. The survey bears the title "Military Service Biography Summary, Brother Rat, Class of '33." Information includes dates of active duty, duty assignments, and "interesting assignments and experiences."

A collection of VMI class ring designs from 1927 forward. New rings are designed by each VMI Class and are presented to Class members during November of their Second Class (Junior) year. The presentation is followed by a formal dance known as Ring Figure.
