The John Walter Wayland Papers contains a variety of materials written by Wayland, to include extensive correspondence, compilations of tombstone inscriptions, family Bible records, genealogies, military rosters, court records, and property books. The collection also includes some diaries from the period of the Civil War as well as an assortment of pamphlets, advertising materials, books, and music.

This collection contains account books, ledgers, and an invoice book of this Winchester, VA business. Included are correspondences from Ellinger and Brother from December 1874 to August 1877.

This collection holds a ledger belonging to the medical practice of Doctors of Robert Macky and Robert Dunbar. The ledger contains records of treatment and sale of medicines to patients between the years 1796 t 1814, mainly in the Winchester-Frederick County area. The account book shows entries organized by individual account holders accompanied by the names of those whose treatment was billed to that account holder, often with details of treatment. Additionally, there are records of business transactions between the practice and individuals providing services of one kind or another, and names of other local doctors consulted by the practice.

The John W. Affleck Collection contains Huber family papers from Holland and Pennsylvania. Included are the original papers written in Dutch and an English translation. These papers range from letters to baptism certificate and range from 1733 to 1843.

The practice of recording family information in a Bible has a long history, but became increasingly common as printing technology improved and Bible became cheaper to purchase. In the late 1700s a printer in Massachusetts became the first to offer a Bible for sale with a section for recording births, deaths, and marriages. Bibles with these blank register pages were popular during the nineteenth century and often given as gifts to newly married couples.
