Photostatic copies of two letters from Samuel Young to John Sharp, written in 1863 at Wheeling, West Virginia, where Mr. Young was representing Pocahontas County in the West Virginia legislature. The letters deal mostly with the appointment of Sharp as Adjutant of the 127th Reg., West Virginia Militia (Pocahontas County), and with West Virginia senatorial elections.

Goods transported include: beeswax, cakes of ice, eggs, a freezer, melons, piston rods, potatoes, and stoves.

A scrapbook and personal diary of Volney Andrews, one-time president of Local 175, covering the years 1938-1949. There is material on disputes over the legitimacy of the AFL and the CIO especially as it was reflected in state regional labor councils and jurisdictional struggles in West Virginia between the United Mine Workers of America and the Progressive Mine Workers of America. Also mentioned are political concerns such as elections, congressional investigations of labor and foreign trade bills, state labor legislative proposals and charges of corruption in West Virginia's handling of the WPA. There is mention of the 1940 Charleston construction trades strike and also of that city's segregated neighborhood housing projects as well as material reflecting the predominant racist attitudes of that era. Thaddeus Clark Noble (b. 1818) of Washington County, Pennsylvania, operated a general store in Claysville, Pennsylvania, from 1849 to the mid-1870s. Approximately 290 letters written in the late 1850s document the operations of Noble's store in western Pennsylvania and his relationship with frequent customers and wholesale dealers. Business correspondence is chiefly from other grocers and merchants. Letters primarily concern goods purchased from Noble and sold to him (flour, salt, molasses, wool, hogs, barley, sugar, oats, wheat, lard, coffee, salt, clothing, hats, etc.); the prices of goods; account balances; freight charges; the shipping and packing of goods, and errors or problems with shipments. Regular correspondents include: Ohio River Salt Company; List, Morrison and Company; List and Howell; Baker and Hopkins; William Albright; Sam McFarland; A. Howell; O. D. Thompson; and A. Goldsmith. Most of Noble's business correspondents were from Wheeling, West Virginia, and western Pennsylvania, but some were also from Philadelphia.

Materials include photocopies and color copies of Socialist Party items from the national and local levels: booklet entitled "What Socialism Will Really Mean to You" by Lawrence Benjamin, published by the Socialist Party, ca. 1936; a 1911 letter requesting an official charter to become the 6th Ward Branch of the Ohio County Socialist Party which includes names, addresses, and offices held; an incomplete report from the 6th Ward; Valentine Reuther's business card; two season tickets to the League for Industrial Democracy Discussion Lectures (1937); a list of names and addresses titled "8th Ward"; Socialist Party accounting receipts (1911-15); and two blank Socialist Party membership cards. The materials suggest that one of the Reuthers was a member of the 6th or 8th Ward of Ohio County at this time. Also includes photocopies of articles related to Bill, Valentine, and Walter Reuther and their connection to Wheeling, West Virginia (1998-2006).
