Abstract Or Scope
Scrapbook (10 3/4' x 14 1/2') of approximately 175 photographs (attached to 24 leaves) documenting the activities of surveyors of the Baltimore and Ohio (B&O) Railroad in the period 1900-1910. Includes portraits semi-formal and candid of individuals and groups of B&O employees and others, candid photos of outdoor survey work, indoor office work, and camp life; and pictures of railroad infrastructure such as tracks, bridges, etc. Many individuals and locations are identified. Locations include Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; High Bridge, Kentucky (railroad bridge); and West Virginia (Gauley River, Woods Ferry, Carnifax Ferry, and 'Gad'). Composition of pictures is good. There are a few pictures that include steamboats.

The deed designates four thousand acres, in Greenbrier County, Virginia on the waters of the Gauley River to Jeremiah Warder, Jeremiah Parker and Richard Parker. The original seal of Virginia is inscribed on this deed. Original date of deed-November 28, 1781.

Letter written by Sallie Davis, sister of Confederate soldier Charles Davis. The letter is dated 19 March 186[2] and addressed to a Mr. Anderson. The letter regards the presence of Union troops in the local area (Greenbrier and neighboring counties), their seizing of property, and how many of Davis' neighbors and friends have moved away for fear of the Union soldiers. Records relating to the history of southeastern West Virginia. Most of the items in the collection relate to Greenbrier and/or Monroe County. Includes antebellum (1833-1850; 7 items), Civil War (1861-1863; 4 items), and postbellum (1886-1933; 9 items) materials. Antebellum material includes a land suit, an estate report and schedule, other financial documents, and personal letter. Civil War material includes four letters authored by Confederate soldiers. Two of these letters describe the battle of Carnifex Ferry. Family names Sharitz and Yonce appear in three of the letters. Postbellum material includes pharmacy receipts, personal letters, programs, and a photograph.
