Personal and genealogical papers of the Dean of the WVU College of Engineering from 1911 to 1932. The papers deal with academic pursuits including the controversy over the reorganization of the Engineering College in 1931-32, and his social and professional activities. Four boxes contain genealogical notes and history on some of the first Ohio Valley families including the Wickliffe, Harden, Monroe, Gambrill, and Jones families. Manuscript and printed material, and pictures collected by Rufus A. West, a Morgantown antiquarian and faculty member of the College of Engineering, West Virginia University. There are also a small number of Mr. West's personal papers, consisting of letters concerning West Virginia University College of Engineering, Oak Grove Cemetery Association, and the Wesley Methodist Church, all of Morgantown, and business records of the Town Hill Service Station, owned by Mr. West.

Fourteen reels of microfilm contain West Virginia University College of Engineering cards from 1895 to 1929. One reel consists of bills and invoices from 1898 to 1916 and laboratory cards from 1902 to 1916. Invoice cards identify the course, items purchased, such as saws, mufflers, bulbs, and clamps, and cost of each item. Lab cards indicate the student name, the lab experiment, and the grade for the work. The other reels contain student cards from 1895 to 1929. Cards provide information about attendance and grades. They are arranged alphabetically by the last name of the student.
