This collection contains two diplomas received by Alexander M. Glasgow. One is his Bachelor of Liberal Arts diploma dated June 30, 1842 from Washington College and the other is from the Washington Literary Society, one of the literary societies established at Washington College, dated June 11, 1842.

The secretary's books document the minutes of the meetings. The first volume in the collection includes the creating documents when the Society was founded in 1809. The books include accounts of debates on current political and social questions, financial information, membership information, and records of student library use.

It includes the Secretary's books (meeting minutes, debate topics, membership rolls), treasurer's books, librarian's books, and roll books and membership registers. It also includes record material associated with The Southern Collegian, including a record book and correspondence. The collection ranges in date from 1814-1918.

This collection consists of a letter written in Lexington by Washington and Lee University student William A. Wimbish on March 28, 1877 to his former classmate, Clarence G. Crawford. Wimbish acknowledges that Crawford has been suffering from an illness. He then proceeds to give him updates on classmates, lodging, Delta Psi, and the classes he's currently taking. He relays that classmate Gip didn't return because he died from typhoid fever in August 1876. Wimbish describes his facial hair at the request of Crawford. He also discusses who is running for the debating medal in both the Washington Literary and Graham Philanthropic Societies and states that he was elected final orator for the Washington Literary Society.
