Bound volumes of speeches, bills, and correspondence, 1941-1952, of Robert L. Ramsay while a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from the first congressional district of West Virginia.

Correspondence of businessman and politician Thomas Beall Davis (1828-1911), brother of Henry Gassaway Davis (1823-1916). Most of the letters and telegrams concern the lobbying efforts of individuals and organizations to influence Davis when he filled an unexpired term in the House of Representatives of the U.S. Congress (June 6, 1905-March 3, 1907). There are many requests for appointments, discharges, and pensions. Also lobbying requests for interstate commerce requiring subsidies or regulations for matters of harbors, railways, and temperance. Mentioned are the West Virginia Anti-Saloon League; the West Virginia Board of Agriculture in support of the Grange; and a union of harbor pilots, the American Pilot Association. There is also a letter from I. C. White of the West Virginia Geological Survey protesting a proposed appropriations cut for the United States Geological Survey which would have limited its scope to only mapping public lands in the West. Also included is a biographical sketch of H. G. Davis up to 1909 which lists his charitable and philanthropic works. Also there is a blueprint map of Barbour County Century Coal Field showing watershed and railways, ca. 1900.

The collection contains issue files, legislative files, committee hearing files, thank-you letters, and constituent mail from his entire congressional career. There are also videotape cassettes, photographs, and many pieces of memorabilia. The collection will be closed to research until 2014.

A collection of biographical sketches written by West Virginia Representatives and Senators for inclusion in the 1859 and 1869 editions of Charles Lanman's "Dictionary of the United States Congress", as well as correspondence and photographs. Congressmen represented in this collection include William Armstrong, Jacob Blair, Arthur I. Boreman, Alexander Boteler, William Gay Brown, John S. Carlile, Sherrard Clemens, Isaac Duval, C.D. Hubbard, A. G. Jenkins, Zedekiah Kidwell, B.M. Kitchen, George R. Latham, Isaac Leffler, James McGrew, William S. Morgan, Daniel H. Polsley, James Stephenson, George William Summers, Peter Van Winkle, Kellian Whaley, John S. Witcher, Waitman T. Willey, Edgar C. Wilson, Henry Wise, and John S. Witcher. This collection contains photographs of Hubbard, Kidwell, Whaley, and Charles James Faulkner. Also includes a photocopy of the Foreword to the 1971 edition of "The Biographical Dictionary of the American Congress".

Contains records of Scott's career as a U.S. Congressman and Senator of Virginia from 1967-1979, including reports, bills, hearings, campaign materials, appointment books, voting records, correspondence, publications, photographs, video tapes, and congressional research materials.

Correspondence, diaries, writings, newspaper clippings, and miscellaneous papers of Wilson, a private in the Twelfth Virginia Cavalry (Confederate), President of West Virginia University, 1882-1883, member of Congress, 1883-1895, Postmaster General, 1895-1897, author of the Wilson-Gorman Tariff, 1894, and President of Washington and Lee University, 1897-1900. The collection includes portions of the diaries covering the years 1862-1863, 1865, 1868-1870, 1877-1891, 1896-1899. Most of the correspondence pertains to Wilson's career as Congressman and Postmaster General and his acceptance of the presidency of Washington and Lee University. Subjects include the tariff, the currency and bimetalism controversy, West Virginia state politics, the income tax, and foreign affairs. Also includes research papers of West Virginia University history professor Festus P. Summers on microfilm; there is a detailed listing of their contents, which includes newspaper editorials and letters.

Extracts from a diary of a tour of the eastern states by a resident of Meadville, Pennsylvania, with descriptions of travel through Greenbrier, Fayette, Kanawha, and Cabell counties, (West) Virginia. Subjects covered include descriptions of buildings, as well as musings about diversions and people of various U.S. cities, including Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, Philadelphia, New York, Boston, Baltimore, Washington, D.C. (where Reynolds attended a session of Congress and heard Clay, Calhoun and Buchanan), Richmond, Charlottesville (he visited Monticello), Charleston, and a number of smaller Virginia cities. There are also descriptions of "natural wonders", including Weirs Cave, Devil's Bake Oven, the Natural Bridge, White Sulphur Springs, and Kanawha Falls.
