An artificial collection of documents, election tickets, campaign literature, and photographs from national, state, and local elections. Most of the state election material concerns Virginia and the largest group of materials is from the 1932 presidential campaign.

Working files of David Allen Gauthier, former chair of the Republican Party Committee in Newport News, VA, party leader, and avid civic member. Besides the Republican Party Committee, Gauthier was also an alternate delegate to the 1988 Republican National Convention, and first vice chairman of the 1st District Republican Committee in 1995. Gauthier was also an active member of the Hampton Roads Jaycees, Newport News Economic Opportunity Committee, and the American Production and Inventory Control Society. Most of the papers in this collection surround his involvement with the Republican Party in Newport News and the Hampton Roads Jaycees.

Scrapbook, 1964, of Donald L. Mulford which contains photographs of both the Republican and Democratic National Conventions. Includes photographs of Barry Goldwater, Adlai Stevenson, Lyndon Johnson, Bobby Kennedy, Jackie Robinson, and many others. There are also photographs of an NAACP rally, Civil Rights demonstrators, and other events surronding the conventions. Finally, there are typed captions with most of the photographs, which are often critical of the Republican Party officials and complimentary of the Democratic Party officials.

November 3, 1882 letter from Israel Green of Mt. Vernon, Ohio to his daughter, Clara G. Murphy in Indiana, about his letter to the editor on November 6, 1858 in the Daily Cincinnati Gazette supporting Lincoln for President. Describes circumstances that led to the letter.

Lamar, William Mahone, Raphael Semmes, William Henry Seward, John Sherman, Leroy Pope Walker, and William Lowndes Young. The personal papers of Mills E. Godwin, Jr., dating from 1947 to 1978, consist of 24 boxes of correspondence, 1,100 copies of speeches, schedules and appointments. Also included are 40 scrapbooks of news clippings and photographs, 159 citations and plaques, and one box of audiovisual materials, all of which pertain largely to Godwin's personal involvement in the government, political life, activities, organizations and institutions of Virginia during the 30-year period. The majority of the items comprising this collection were microfilmed by the Virginia State Library.
