Botetourt County (Va.) Justice's Warrant and Execution Book, 1852-1872, is a volume used by the justice of the peace to record the financial results of judgments. Recorded are the names of the parties in the suit, date of judgment, amount of judgment, interest from which date, costs, date of execution, to whom execution delivered for collection, and date execution was returnable.

Maps are a visual representation of an entire area or a part of an area, typically represented on a flat surface. Maps attempt to represent various things like physical features, roads, topography, etc.

Botetourt County (Va.) Maps of the land taken for the use of the James River and Kanawha Canal, 1848 circa, are maps and survey records of land taken by the James River and Kanawha Canal Company and the Commonwealth of Virginia from private citizens and the town of Buchanan in order to facilitate the construction of the canal in Botetourt County.

Marriage Register, 1770-1853, is divided into two separate volumes. The first volume covering pages 1-346, 1770-1830, records the date of the marriage bond, the names of both parties, the names of the parents or guardians present and the names of the security or witnesses in attendance. In addition, there are a number of marriages between free persons of color--pages 165, 181, 230, 250 and 302.

Botetourt County (Va.) Minute Book, 1812-1828, records all mattters brought before the court on a daily basis when the court is in session including but not limited to: civil and criminal suits, appointments of county officers, appointments of guardians and administrators, deed recordings, free negro registrations, naturalization registrations, and court fees. Clerks would transfer information from minute books to an appropriate order book, deed book, free negro register, etc. This volume was created by the County Court.

Botetourt County (Va.) Minute Book for Court Exemption from Military Draft, 1861-1865, document the board's ruling on petitions for exemption from military service in the Confederate army. Most petitions were made on the grounds of permanent bodily infirmity or having furnished a substitute. Most all statements about applications for exemption state the regiment to which the requestor was drafted to serve. Two of the 1862 meetings give names of free male negroes who were drafted into the Confederate States Quartermaster department to work on defenses in the New River District or with the Army of South Westerly Virginia.

Botetourt County (Va.) Minutes of the Provisional Committee, 1861-1865, record information about the county's efforts to supply its voluntary military units as well as for indigent soldiers' families. Included is information about committee members and officials, county bonds to raise money, tax monies collected, accounts paid out (including to whom paid and the amount, but rarely the reason why paid), and occasional specific information about soldiers, or a soldier's family, or a particular military unit, including the Botetourt Dragoons.

Botetourt County (Va.) Organization Records, circa 1824-1930, undated, is comprised of various records created by groups in Botetourt County. Represented records largely consist of an account book, and loose records.

Botetourt County (Va.) Public Buildings and Grounds, Alterations and Additions to Courthouse, 1917-1918. This series consist of a single folder containing nine blueprint sheets with specifications for alterations and additions to the 1848 Botetourt County courthouse by architect G. R. Ragen of Roanoke, Virginia. This redesign reversed the original interior scheme of the building and eliminated most of the original interior trim, including that in the building's wings. The courthouse was destroyed by fire in 1970.
