This collection consists of the message book and diary (in one volume) kept by Charles C. Phillips during the period between April 24, 1864 and July 13, 1864. The diary details Signal Corps activities during this period, and mentions seeing VMI cadets at Hanover Junction on May 23, 1864 (including his brother Samuel Travers Phillips) where they stopped on their way to Richmond, Virginia after the Battle of New Market, Virginia on May 15.

Contains material regarding the Bodkin family of Pendleton County, West Virginia. Items within the collection include two Civil War era letters written by William H. Bodkin, other letters, sheriff's summons, receipts, a funeral program, genealogical information, and photographs of Bodkin family members with identification. The collection also contains a brown velvet bonnet and a black scarf; six homemade quilts and a quilted pillow; and a fedora hat. Clippings, letters, broadsides, and articles written or collected by E.E. Meredith, author of the newspaper column, "Do You Remember," which appeared in the Fairmont TIMES-WEST VIRGINIAN. There are: copies of theatre programs, 1917-1919; electoral tickets, 1860, 1864; a proclamation by George B. McClellan, commanding the Department of the Ohio, 1861; and an open letter, "Monongahela River Bridge Underwriting Syndicate Managers," concerning the construction of the million-dollar bridge in Fairmont. Subjects include: Marion County, West Virginia; Augusta County, Virginia; farming account books, ca.1853, 1888; Barnsville; Barrackville Covered Bridge; banks and banking in Marion County, 1842-1892; blacksmith shops; buffalo; Marion County Historical Society; coal industry in the Fairmont region; a West Virginia Gold Mining and Milling Company certificate; Grafton and Greenbrier Railroad Company stock certificate; stock of Weston and Fairmont Turnpike Company; school teaching, 1819, 1824, 1850, and 1858. This collection consists of 100+ letters written between the years of 1863–1868, accompanied by a book entitled, The Heizer Family: American Pioneers by James Marion Heizer c.1861-1868. The majority of the letters are authored by James Francis (Frank) Heizer, a private in the Confederate army, whose letters are mostly addressed to his love interest and eventual fiance, Pheobe Ann McCormick.

This collection consists of the Civil War letters (six items) of Lieutenant Colonel Michael G. Harman, written from Staunton, Virginia where he was Quartermaster. The letters were written primarily to General Henry R. Jackson. The correspondence concerns supplies of corn, clothing, horses, and other items, transportation problems, and other Quartermaster Department problems.
