Photograph album, circa 1910s-1920s, of John W. Henderson of Williamsburg, Virginia. Includes photographs of his time at Williamsburg High School and photographs of pre-restoration Williamsburg. There are also photographs from his time at the College of William & Mary, including photographs of the first class of women at the College, various sporting events, and various plays put on by the Dramatic Club. There are also photographs from Gloucester Point, Virginia, Yorktown, Jamestown, and the Eastern Shore of Virginia, among other locations. Also included are other loose photographs of members of the Henderson family. Henderson later married Elizabeth Lee, one of the members of the first class of women (1918) at William & Mary.

She was the author of the HISTORY OF RITCHIE COUNTY; BLENNERHASSETT ISLAND IN ROMANCE AND TRAGEDY; FRIENDSHIP HILL, HOME OF ALBERT GALLATIN; MARSHALL HALL AND OTHER POTOMAC POINTS IN STORY AND PICTURE; and MT. VERNON: ITS CHILDREN, ITS ROMANCES, ITS ALLIED FAMILIES AND MANSIONS. There are complete and incomplete typescripts, rough drafts, revisions, photographs and plates of her books. Also there are typescripts of news articles on Washington, D.C., the Potomac Valley, and Wood County. There are genealogical notebooks and correspondence and also correspondence to publishers concerning business arrangements. Typescript history of the Ward family of Ohio with a concentration on its association with Harman Blennerhassett, whose secretary was Sylvester Ward. Included is some information on the Blennerhassetts, Aaron Burr, Dudley Woodbridge, Elijah Backus and Aaron Waldo Putnam. Much mention is made of neighboring allied families to the Wards, particularly Hendersons and Putnams in the adjoining counties of Wood Co., VA and Washington Co., OH. There is a detailed transcription of an October 8, 1805 letter by William Howe Cuyler to John G. Henderson describing a disagreement and a duel between his brother, Alexander Henderson and Stephen R. Wilson. Also mentioned in this account about the duel are: Samuel Hempstead, James Henderson, Daniel Kinchelow, Robert Kinchelow, John Melrose, Hugh Phelps, Dr. Joseph Spencer, John Stephenson, Thomas Tavenner, Sylvester Ward, and James Wilson. Research on the lives and backgrounds of the participants and those connected with the duel is also included separately from the transcribed letter.
