The United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) archives consists of the records of the first industry-wide pension and medical care plans for coal miners and their families in the United States. The archives comprise approximately 156 linear feet of records from the years 1946-1974, and include minutes, resolutions, correspondence, memos, reports, transcribed speeches, lawsuit documents, construction plans, contracts, statistical reports, newspaper clippings, photographs, microfilmed reading files, sound recordings, and movie film.

Morgantown Post Office Scrapbook and Other Records, 1907/1978

Scrapbook and other records documenting the history of the Morgantown post office. Includes news clippings, photographs, pamphlets, and papers. Many clippings deal with postmaster appointments and changes in postal employee conditions such as pay raises and working hours. Many pictures and articles document the construction of the previous post office, now the Morgantown Arts Center, as well as the present post office. There are also clippings about natives of Morgantown serving in the military in World War II. The Morgantown post office was one of the first post offices in what is now West Virginia; George Washington appointed its first postmaster in 1795.

Correspondence, clippings, biographical sketches, photographs, artifacts, and other items relating to the family of St. George Tucker Brooke (1844-1914), a professor at West Virginia University College of Law, 1878-1909. Correspondence includes business and personal letters to and from St. George Tucker Brooke and Charles Frederick Tucker Brooke, a Rhodes Scholar and Shakespearean authority at Yale; letters between Francis (Frank) Brooke to Mrs. Mary Brooke while he served in the U.S. and France during World War I (1918-1919); and letters from James Harold in Ireland to his son James in New York (ca. 1870). Other items include a surveyor's call book for Tucker County (1856-1857), which includes notes on the Tucker-Randolph County boundary; "A Narrative of My Life: for My Family," 1763-1849 by Judge Francis T. Brooke; a manuscript recipe book (1814); and microfilmed copy of typescript "Autobiography of St. George Tucker Brooke, Written for His Children" (reel 3). West Virginia Business College Records, 1930/1970

Records of the West Virginia Business College of Fairmont, West Virginia, from the 1930s to the 1960s. A private commercial school established in 1893, the West Virgina Business College offered secretarial, accounting, and business administration courses during the 1940s and 1950s. Records chiefly contain student files, adminstrative subject files, financial materials, and publicity materials. Student files are loosely arranged in alphabetical order and relate primarily to veterans attending the college on the G.I. Bill. Their records include letters of eligibility, course invoices, and certificates of training. Subject files relate to administrative matters such as supplies, teacher applications, and advertising, and to other vocational or business schools and national associations. Financial materials chiefly include tax information from the 1940s to 1960s.
