Don Eugene Detmer papers 31 Linear Feet Boxes 1-9 are from the first accession. Boxes 10-31 were processed together from three separate accessions donated between 2017-2024.

Detmer, Don Eugene

The Don Eugene Detmer papers contain speeches, reprints, policy documents, committee meeting records, articles, correspondence, editorials, and born-digital materials that relate to the professional life of Don Eugene Detmer. Materials particularly document Dr. Detmer's work during 1973-2004 working at the Department of Surgery at the University of Wisconsin, the Department of Surgery and the Department of Medical Informatics at the University of Utah, the University of Virginia, and the University of Cambridge. Other materials relate to the Institute of Medicine, the UVA Health System, the American Medical Informatics Association, the China Medical Board of New York, the Friends of the National Library of Medicine, the American Association of Medical Colleges, and the Nuffield Trust.

Dorsey, Gabe Peer Interview

In the following interview, Gabe Dorsey discusses his early childhood and how his parents instilled an unwavering dedication to work, discipline, and spirituality. Gabe recalls deriving his name from the biblical archangel Gabriel, who declared to the Virgin Mary that she had been selected to bear the Son of God and served as a touchstone throughout his upbringing. He describes attending church every Sunday with his immediate family—his mother, father, two older brothers, and grandparents—and values the faith he observed between his parents as a marital unit. Gabe also reflects on how family, early education, and recreational athletics led him to pursue and compete in collegiate basketball at the College of William & Mary. He credits his father, a former college basketball player, with inspiring him and emphasizing the academic benefits of such a sport. I completed the interview for an assignment in the Williamsburg Documentary Project, taught by Professor Michelle Lelièvre.

Howe, Barbara J.
Dr. Barbara Howe worked at West Virginia University in a variety of different positions between 1980 and her retirement in 2009, including as associate professor of history, head of the public history program, and director of the Center for Women's Studies. Prevalent subjects present in the collection include historical preservation, environmental activism, and politics in the Morgantown and broader West Virginia area.

Druitt, Cynthia Dianne Oral History

Cynthia Druitt is a descendant community member of the Williamsburg Bray School. Cynthia Druitt describes learning about the Williamsburg Bray School and that she is a member of the descendant community. She discusses her cousin, Col Lafayette Jones' and his book My Great Great Grandfather's Journey to an Island of Freedom, about the Jones children who attended the Bray School. Cynthia Druitt discusses the opening of the Williamsburg Bray School in the Colonial Williamsburg historic area.

Swem Library

This collection includes both processed series and unprocessed accessions of records created by the Earl Gregg Swem Library at the College of William and Mary including those from component offices and individual staff members. A majority of the collection contains correspondence from the dean of the libraries and library administration. Inventories for some series and accessions are available in the Special Collections Research Center and links to PDFs of those inventories can be provided when available.
