This collection contains seven posters advertising the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Community parade sponsored by CARE Rockbridge. CARE is short for Community Anti-Racism Effort. The first parade was in 2017. The posters are dated 2017-2022. The design and printing of the 2017-2019 posters was done by Washington and Lee University alumna Amira Hegazi, Class of 2015. The 2022 poster was designed by Gaby Vazquez.

Abstract Or Scope

This collection consists materials compiled and collected by Matthew "Matt" White Paxton, Jr. The primary subject matter of the collection is Paxton family genealogy, the history of the Rockbridge County, Virginia, and related families including Houston, Walker, White, Brockenbrough, Hopkins, Bowyer, Owen, and Braxton. The collection includes original manuscripts, photographs, and secondary source materials such as notes, articles, clippings, pamphlets, and published materials. The photographs are predominately Paxton family members from the late 19th-mid 20th century. There is one photograph of Matthew Paxton, Sr. taken while a student at Washington and Lee University (1873-1874) as well as photographs of his son, Matthew Paxton, Jr. at Fancy Dress and dressed in military uniform in 1918. There are also cased ambrotypes and daguerreotypes of members of the White and Hopkins families. The collection includes a number of photographs from the Michael Miley Studio.

This collection contains: newspaper clippings about Hurricane Camille; a record of a song recorded by J. Mark Jones about the night of the hurricane; three copies of a report titled "Reaction of Flood Victims in Rockbridge County, Virginia" by a Washington and Lee class in Research Methods and Politics and Sociology; and a poster advertising the 50th anniversary commemoration of Hurricane Camille.
