This collection contains flyers, publications, and newspapers related to social justice in Norfolk collected by Scott Sechrist while a student at Old Dominion University in the early 1970s. The collection consists of four issues of the underground Newspaper, The Norfolk Gorilla, bumper stickers for radio station K-94 and the 1972 Presidential Campaign of George McGovern and Sargent Shriver, as well as other anti-Vietnam publications.

The Gary P. Carperter collection contains scrapbooks, photographs, slides and papers collected by Gary P. Carpenter. Scrapbooks include postcards from various sources, depicting ships and airplanes with detailed descriptons of the ships. Photographs and slides document Gary P. Carpenter's life during the Vietnam War. Other papers include ephemera such as brochures and programs from cruise ships compiled by Gary P. Carpenter.

Abstract Or Scope

This collection consists of scrapbooks, photographs, programs, and other material relating to the William and Mary Choir at William & Mary. Some records included in this collection pertain to the Women's Chorus and the Botetourt Chamber Singers, an a capella student organization at the College of William and Mary. The scrapbooks contain clippings, programs, and photographs of performances and other activities by the groups during the academic year. A few of the scrapbooks document the William and Mary Choir's trips to Europe over the summer break. The collection also includes photographs of choir members rehearsing, sites they visited while traveling to various venues, and other activities. A poster of photographs of the William and Mary Choir performing at the Presidential Inauguration for Bill Clinton in January 1997 is also included. The collection also includes musical CDs of rehearsals and performances. CDs and digital files in collection require at least 72 hours advanced notice for access.

This collection consists of 38 feedsacks, feedsack textiles, and items made from feedsack textiles. Feedsacks were manufactured with dress goods quality textiles in the period 1925-1960, so although they were used for the distribution of animal feed, flour, beans, etc., they were frequently repurposed for the creation of household and clothing items, especially during World War II and after. This collection represents a wide variety of feedsack types, purposes, and uses.

Papers regarding the career of Harold B. Shill, including documentation of his legislative activities in connection with libraries and information policy. There are American Library Association (ALA) committee files, records on electronic dissemination of information, and National Technical Information Service (NTIS) material, among many others. There is also material related to Shill's participation on the Legislative Committee of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), of which he served as chair from 1987-1988. Harold Shill joined the faculty of the School of Public Affairs, Penn State, Harrisburg, in the fall of 2005, following a distinguished career in academic librarianship, including service as director of the Capital College Libraries from 1991-2005, as the Federal Relations Coordinator of the West Virginia Library Association, and leadership positions at West Virginia University from 1975-91. Papers of J. Davitt McAteer documenting his advocacy for mining and other occupational safety. A lawyer and expert on mine safety and health issues, he served as an Assistant Labor Secretary for the Mine Safety and Health Administration from 1993 to 2000. McAteer was also appointed lead investigator into the Upper Big Branch Mine Disaster by Governor Manchin in 2010. The collection includes accident investigation reports, conference files, correspondence, health and safety manuals, mine disaster historical files, press clippings, publications, and reports, among other material.

Abstract Or Scope
Through Women's Eyes: Southeast Asian American Women's Stories contains materials that tell the stories of Southeast Asian American women who were born in Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, or Vietnam and migrated to the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area in their young adult years during the 1970s-1990s. This oral history project, conducted in the early 1990s, aims to describe what caused these women to move and their transition into American culture and life while keeping their native customs alive in their homes. The project was made into an temportary independent exhibit for the Smithsonian in 2016.
