Abstract Or Scope: The Jan Karon papers (66 cubic feet; 1918-2018) contain Mitford book typescripts and galleys; materials related to Ms. Karon's publishing career and her relationship with her agent and publisher; letters and fan mail from readers, arranged by month and year only; memorabilia; professional and personal correspondence; reviews and press publicity; research related to Karon's novels; files related to charitable organizations and boards; architectural drawings of Esmont Farm; files and journals related to the purchase, restoration, and running of historic Esmont Farm, Albemarle County, Virginia, by Karon; personal and family papers; files pertaining to Jan Karon's advertising career, particularly the North Carolina tourism campaign for McKinney and Silver; photographs; artifacts; audiovisual material; and born-digital material, including disks and hard drives.

Abstract Or Scope: Includes graded papers, clippings, and correspondence with Washington and Lee University professors during Mudd's college years. Also includes speeches given for commencements, press/broadcasting associations, emcee roles, and acceptance of awards and honors. Includes correspondence with J. Stewart Bryan III, John Updike, Sandra Day O'Connor, Walter Cronkite and Dan Rather. Includes scripts from Mudd's years at the Richmond News Leader, CBS radio and television, NBC, PBS, and THC (History Channel) television. Includes VHS tapes of commencement addresses, clips from CBS, NBC, THC and PBS (MacNeil/Lehrer News Hour), personal appearances and professionally produced tapes narrated by Mudd. Especially notable are the video series entitled Great Minds in American History, Learning in America, Inside the Presidency, and Making History with Roger Mudd. Some of the clippings and tapes were used for Mudd's journalism classes at Princeton University and Washington and Lee University. Collection also includes day by day coverage of the U. S. Congressional journey of the 1964 Civil Rights legislation.

Abstract Or Scope: The Equality Virginia records collection includes materials created and acquired by the organization in the course of carrying out its administrative, outreach, and advocacy activities. Materials include minutes, reports, correspondence, bylaws, clippings, newsletters, pamphlets, electronic records, and audio visual materials. The collection is of value as it includes legislative materials and news clippings pertaining to the Bottoms v. Bottoms case, news clippings documenting the HIV/AIDS epidemic, along with clippings of hate crimes that the Virginia LGBT community faced during the 1980s and 1990s. The legislative materials also include the lawsuit against the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control that overturned legislation allowing liquor licenses to be revoked at establishments employing or catering to homosexuals.
