Each binder has a number on the spine that corresponds with the class year and there is a message in the beginning of both binders that states, "Chappell Studio congratulates your graduates on their [1996/1997] Commencement Ceremony. Chappell Studio is proud to have been a part of this momentous event and presents this album to you featuring highlights of your graduation ceremony." In addition to the commencement ceremony, there are also pictures of campus buildings and landscaping.

Rev. S.M. Engle Papers, 1865/1937

The S. M. Engle papers, SC-000143, contains the speeches given by Rev. S. M. Engle during his time at Hampden-Sydney College and after. The eight hand-written speeches or arguments address subjects such as Engle's inauguration to the Union Literary Society, religion, patriotism, utilitarianism, the position of the student in the nineteenth century, sensualistic philosophy, and the future of Roman Catholicism in the United States of America. Also included in the collection is correspondence between HSC archives and Engle's descendants regarding the transfer of ownership for the collection. Not included in the collection are specifics to Engle's classes or the Union Theological Seminary.
