Collections

The collection includes personal and professional correspondence. Some are family letters, most are professionally related. Included University of Virginia correspondents are John T. Ashley, Robert M. Carey, Rose M. Chioni, Kenneth Crispell, Don E. Detmer, Richard F. Edlich, Frank L. Hereford, R. Scott Jones, Norman J. Knorr, and Robert M. O'Neil. Correspondents outside of UVa include W. G. Anlyan, Willard E. Goodwin, Hiram C. Polk, Mark M. Ravitch, Jonathan E. Rhoads, Robert S. Sparkman, H. William Scott, and Richard L. Varco. Dr. Muller was a member of many organizations and some of those are represented here including the American College of Surgeons, American Surgical Association, Halsted Society, Medical Society of Virginia, Muller Surgical Society, Society of University Surgeons, Southern Society for Clinical Research, and Southern Surgical Association. There is also a 25 page recollection of his time with Dr. Alfred Blalock, a UVa Surgery Department scrapbook, photos, and slides of the construction of the 1989 hospital.

This collection is arranged into twenty-four main series, in thirty-eight record storage boxes for a total of about 16 linear feet. The first series is senior staff papers from the President's Office during Dr. Anderson's administration. Other series cover commencement records, honor convocation lists, campus buildings and grounds records, annual reports, state of Virginia papers, national educational papers, various university program documents, Southern educational materials, financial records and documents, student affairs materials, special events materials, inauguration papers, Board of Visitors materials, presidential correspondence, various academic committee papers, community relations documents, faculty affairs materials, papers on conferences and workshops, the President's Book Club materials, Dr. Anderson's speeches, and the last series is reserved for miscellaneous materials.

This collection consists of scrapbooks, photographs, programs, and other material relating to the William and Mary Choir at William & Mary. Some records included in this collection pertain to the Women's Chorus and the Botetourt Chamber Singers, an a capella student organization at the College of William and Mary. The scrapbooks contain clippings, programs, and photographs of performances and other activities by the groups during the academic year. A few of the scrapbooks document the William and Mary Choir's trips to Europe over the summer break. The collection also includes photographs of choir members rehearsing, sites they visited while traveling to various venues, and other activities. A poster of photographs of the William and Mary Choir performing at the Presidential Inauguration for Bill Clinton in January 1997 is also included. The collection also includes musical CDs of rehearsals and performances. CDs and digital files in collection require at least 72 hours advanced notice for access.

Established by American Studies Ph.D. Kevin Kosanovich working in Swem Library's Special Collections, the William & Mary Hip Hop Collection is the most comprehensive of its kind dedicated to Virginia's hip hop culture and history from the 1980s to the present. The collection includes oral histories committed to preserving and documenting Virginia's rich hip hop past, as well as recordings of hip hop music, publications, and ephemera created by Virginia and Virginia-based artists, collectives, and businesses. Additionally, the collection documents the origins and impact of hip hop culture on college campuses throughout the state by collecting records of hip hop based student organizations, college radio stations, events and concerts with a special focus on William & Mary itself.

Materials related to the William & Mary Ultimate Frisbee men's teams, including discs and team jerseys and t-shirts. The team names are also represented, from the original "Wizards" to the current "Darkhorse."

Collection contains scrapbooks, printed materials, photographs and other papers documenting the activities of the Ultimate Women's Frisbee Team at William & Mary. Materials within the collection document Cypress (A-team, though materials from the Woolly Mammoths (B-team) may be added to the collection at a later date. Items include a poster, signed paper plates, jersey, disc and program from Ultimate USA college championship.
