Collections

This collection consists of an Old Dominion College athletic booster pin, bumper sticker, and academic hood, as well as a business card for Albert S. Armentrout, class of 1969.

This collection contains essays and papers related to the history of the University of Virginia compiled by Alexander G. "Sandy" Gilliam, a University of Virginia alumnus, administrator, and historian. The content dates range from 1921 to 2019. Correspondence and greeting cards between Gilliam and University administrators, historians, and alums are present, as are forty special interest essays written by Gilliam on obscure University of Virginia historical subject matter. The essays discuss historical maps of the University, University Presidents, road nomenclature, secret societies, the history of buildings, the Rotunda, the Lawn, University faculty, and the evolution of student life. Also included are programs from University dinners, building grand openings, groundbreaking ceremonies, Final Exercises, dedications, funerals, on-Grounds weddings, and other events collected by Gilliam.

11 letters from Alexander Theroux to Judy Barnes. Barnes, whose name is now Judith Music, describes the letters as such: "We had met in 1972 when he was on the faculty of Longwood College and I was a reference librarian there." The dates of the letters are: 1 Letter (1973), 4 Letters (1974), 2 Letters (1978), 1 Letter (1979), 2 Letters (1980).

The collection consists of organizational records of the group, including minutes from the monthly meetings and membership rosters. Also included are copies of the newsletter of the American Antique Arts Association, originally named The Quad Anglo and later called The Journal. The collection includes newspaper clippings about the group and its activities, articles written by the group's founder, Orva Heissenbuttel, and articles about antiques and antique collecting. The collection also contains information about tours taken by the group, including pamphlets and brochures from places visited. Additionally, there is a group of photographs depicting members engaged in chapter activities.

This collection pertains mostly to Alexandria's 1974 celebration. Included are minutes and reports from the Alexandria Bicentennial Commission's meetings, and schedules of festivities. Also included are the Bicentennial editions of the Alexandria Gazette from both 1974 and 1976. The 1974 edition, however,is missing the first two sections. The collection also contains a bound collection of historical information on the history of the Alexandria Library Company and the Circulating library, presumably at the behest of the Bicentennial Commission.

This collection contains digital donations collected from members of the Alexandria African American community during the 2023 Alexandria Black Family Reunion event. This is a completely digital collection consisting of digital surrogates of the materials; the original items have been retained by their owners. Included are photographs, documents, and ephemera.

The Alexandria Gazette I, 1942 - circa 1991, contains nearly 230 photographs taken for and published in the Alexandria Gazette. Notable Alexandrians, politicians, events, and historic sites are captured. Several photographs have their original captions included.
