This collection includes early Washington and Lee University papers and miscellaneous materials supplementary to the university's trustee's records, faculty meeting minutes, and treaurer's records. Much of this collection was found over decades from various locations on campus and housed in the Treasurer's Office.

This collection consists of files compiled in preparing the history of the Cooperative Extension Service entitled College of the Fields: Highlights of the Virginia Cooperative Extension Service, 1914-1980. Included in the collection are: lists of county agents (1914-80); correspondence, articles, speeches and other items from the files of Ella Agnew, first home demonstration agent in the U.S.; information on Seaman Knapp, T.O. Sandy, Maude Wallace, and other pioneers of extension work; information on Negro extension work, 4-H, Black Extension Homemakers Club, Virginia Extension Homemakers Council, and home demonstration work; typed manuscripts of articles and speeches by John R. Hutcheson; photographs of home demonstration work and the people involved; publications consulted for the history; and a rough draft of the history with margin notes and editing.

Scrapbook of the Theta Kappa Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (1974-1975; 0.10 cubic feet). Album contains photographs, flyers, certificates, and other ephemera.

The collection consists primarily of photographs that document Hoffman Brown's life as a student at Washington and Lee University between 1973-1977. The photograph subjects include Glee Club, the Student Association for Black Unity (SABU), the Black Awareness Ball, social activities of black students, and the W&L track team. There are a few documents related to the Black Awareness Ball and an undated flyer for a Sickle Cell fundraising disco sponsored by SABU.

This collection contains many materials relating to the South African mission. Dr. Leyburn saved a number of newspaper articles concerning South Africa which are contained herein. Reports on various industries and other aspects of South Africa are included. Also within this collection are an assortment of Dr. Leyburn's speeches, some of which address South Africa. The remainder of the speeches concern the future of Washington and Lee University.

This record group contains materials about Mock Convention at Washington and Lee created by members of the Mock Convention Planning Committee and other university employees while carrying out their job duties. The collection includes correspondence, photographs, tally sheets, state delegates information, publications, press releases, press packets, posters, ephemera, and audiovisual content. The Mock Con websites have also been archived.
