Abstract Or Scope
The Granville Skidmore Kennedy Family Papers contain several letters, documents, cards, and photographs mostly addressed to Granville Skidmore Kennedy (1899-1986), the Director of the Dairy Division of the Virginia State Health Department, and his wife Wilma Hoyt Kennedy (1906-1989), an elementary school teacher in Henrico County and Roanoke County, Virginia. This collection also contains the correspondence of Edwin M. Kennedy (1901-1974), Granville's brother. Additional documents and letters discuss the residence and care of Linda Lanier Kennedy, Granville's sister, a 1953 list of alumni from the University of Tennessee's College of Agriculture, and an undated letter to "Frank."

ARVAS is an aggregator of archival resources. ARVAS does not have control of the descriptive language used in our members’ finding aids.

Finding aids may contain historical terms and phrases, reflecting the shared attitudes and values of the community from which they were collected, but are offensive to modern readers. These include demeaning and dehumanizing references to race, ethnicity, and nationality; enslaved or free status; physical or mental ability; religion; sex; and sexual orientation and gender identity.

Many institutions and organizations are in the process of reviewing and revising their descriptive language, with the intent to describe materials in more humanizing, inclusive, and harm-reductive ways. As members revise their descriptive language, their changes will eventually be reflected in their ARVAS finding aids.
