The office files of Dr. Core, Head, Department of Biology, contain personal and professional correspondence. The papers deal with his work in the field of botany: as Curator of the Herbarium; as organizer of the Appalachian Botanical Club and editor of its journal, Castanea; and in various phases of botanical research. Some of the correspondence deals with academic duties and activities, and also reflects his interests in religious, historical, and civic activities at Core, WV.

Prince, Elmer W.
Items that belonged to Elmer W. Prince, Morgantown City Manager from 1933 to 1942 and from 1946 to 1966. The collection includes Prince's 1905-07 post card collection, a 1921 West Virginia University Bachelor of Science Degree in civil engineering, and two Morgantown budget statements, 1935 and 1937. There are also photographs, including images of Morgantown (1941) and several taken by Prince of post World War II France and Germany (1945-1946). Prince served as an army major during and after the war, for which his unit received a letter of recognition from President Harry Truman. Other materials include a journal kept by Elmer Prince in 1967 while on assignment for the federal government in Iran; two religious publications; several newspapers and clippings; and artifacts such as World War II goggles, a ca. 1941 handkerchief from England with a printed war rally slogan, West Virginia University memorabilia, and four recognition plaques for community service. There is also a 1951 certificate from Capital Airlines in honor of Prince's efforts to bring airline service to Morgantown.

These included a large trade in manufacturing, importing and selling hats and furs, general merchandising, fertilizer and hardwood sales.

Papers of Franklin Marion Brand, lawyer and politician of Monongalia County, West Virginia. Includes mostly correspondence related to legal and political matters (some personal) in Monongalia County and the state of West Virginia (inclusive dates: 1917-1944; bulk dates: 1935-1943). Diverse in content, this correspondence includes material regarding activities of city government (Morgantown), local schools and churches, bar associations, the Republican State Committee, state government, and other organizations. A series of correspondence dating from 1943, labeled "legislative" by Brand, includes a wide range of material reflecting his activities as a delegate from Monongalia County. There is also an extensive series of political handbills and pamphlets, many of which advocate Republican opposition to the New Deal policies of President Franklin Roosevelt. Papers of Harry Outen Cole (1874-1950), a Morgantown, West Virginia engineer who was with the Pacific Division of the Panama Canal, 1908-1912. In addition to correspondence there are reports, speeches, newspaper clippings, U.S. documents, photographs, blueprints, and structural drawings of the Panama Canal, with some data on the proposed Nicaraguan Canal. Correspondents include Chapman Revercomb and Melvin C. Snyder. Included is a microfilm of an autobiographical sketch, "Some Episodes in the Life of Harry Outen Cole."
