Collections

This colllection consists of certificates, citations, commissions, and similar documentation associated with VMI alumni, faculty, staff, or VMI as a whole. The collection does not include VMI diplomas or literary society certificates, which are filed separately.

The records of the Alumni Association of the College of William and Mary include office files, material from select Executive Secretaries, meeting minutes, publications, correspondence, and other material documenting the activities of the William & Mary Alumni Association as well as the College of William & Mary's history and alumni more generally.

These files contain biographical information of alumni of the University of Virginia School of Law.

This collection contains material personally collected by College of William and Mary President Alvin Duke Chandler and his wife, Louise Michaels Chandler. The collection consists of photographs, diplomas, news clippings, and correspondence of the Chandlers. Among the topics in the collection are documents pertaining to the Inauguration of Alvin Duke Chandler as President of the College of William and Mary, the Jamestown Foundation, visits to Williamsburg by dignitaries including Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip, photographs of various activities on campus, the associated branches of William and Mary, and material from other family members including father, Julian Alvin Carroll Chandler, and brother Herbert Chandler. One of the several photographs of notable visitors to William and Mary is a color photograph of Winston Churchill at a banquet in the Wren Building during Churchill's 1955 visit. Colonial Williamsburg presented Churchill with a bell.

Records of a local union of street car employees in Wheeling, West Virginia. There are minute books, correspondence, contracts, agreements, boards of arbitration hearings, and financial records, including membership figures and lists of members from the founding of the local to the late 1950s. The correspondence concerns mainly intra-union issues of seniority, transfers of membership, and local union governance, but there are also a few letters about Division 103's support of other organized workers and about the American labor movement. The records also include one folder of legal documents submitted to the Interstate Commerce Commission for consideration in its drafting of safety regulations for motor carriers. There is also an addendum [2010 February 03] of a copy of the March 1918 issue of "The Motorman and Conductor," a publication of this union.
