Description:

The Albert and Shirley Small Special Collections Library administers over 13 million manuscripts, 3.6 million items in the University archives, and 325,000 rare books, as well as approximately 5,000 maps, over 4,000 broadsides; more than 250,000 photographs and small prints; over 8,000 reels of microfilm; and substantial holdings of audio recordings, motion picture films, and ephemera.

The major emphasis of the Department’s collections are American history and literature, with additional substantive collections in Virginiana, British literature, African-American history, book arts, the history of sporting and World War I, among others. In addition, the library serves as the University Archives, holding records of historic significance to UVA.

This folder contains newspaper clippings about Thomas Muldrup Logan, including a newspaper clipping about Lena Logan Forsyth accepting honors for her father at the unveiling of the Washington Light Infantry Monument in Charleston, SC in 1891. There is also an article of Elizabeth Drake Morrill Holladay, a female pilot who ferried planes during WWII. This was a part of a female group of pilots called the 'Ninety-Nines.' Her second husband, Richard Fairfield Holladay, helped build the Albemarle Airport.

This folder contains a stock certificate for four shares in the Exchange Bank of Virginia; a few letters to Dr. Francis M. Gunnell, Virginia Scott, and Emily Gunnell, 1869-1950; an account of the early life of Richard M. Scott, Sr. written for his son, copied by Virginia Scott from the first pages of a book left to Richard M. Scott, Jr.; and two photographs, one of John P. Nelson and a second of Bruce Covington Gunnell.

Papers of Edward Price Buford, lawyer of Lawrenceville, Brunswick County, Va., who practiced alone and in the firms of Buford, Palmer and Hill, and Buford, Palmer and Eggleston. Letter books, daybook and journal containing personal and legal correspondence and accounts, and materials relating to political and economic conditions in Lawrenceville and Southside Virginia, to a hospital fund campaign in Lawrenceville, and to the Lawrenceville Land and Timber Co. of which Buford was an officer. Correspondents include Robert Strange.
