West Virginia Postmasters
The record of the appointment of postmasters in the following WV counties: Randolph, Ritchie, Roane, Summers, Taylor, Tucker, Tyler, Upshur, Wayne, Webster, Wetzel, Wirt, Wood and Wyoming. The record shows the dates of establishment and discontinuance of post offices, their changes of name, and the names of and the appointment dates of their postmasters. Beginning in 1870, it shows the names of post offices to which mail from discontinued offices was sent. The record also shows the dates of Presidential appointments of postmasters and the dates of their confirmation by the Senate, usually the dates that post offices were authorized to issue money orders, and occasionally the dates on which the locations of offices were changed.

Rumbarger Lumber Company, R.M. Sutton Company, Stearns Manufacturing Company, Saint Lawrence Boom and Manufacturing Company, S.E. Slaymaker and Company, timberlands, West Spruce Lumber Company, and William Whitmer and Sons, Inc. Places mentioned include Greenbrier, Pocahontas, and Randolph counties; Green Bank, Horton, Cass, Piedmont, and Ronceverte (all in West Virginia); and Covington, Virginia. Correspondents include Joseph K. Cass, T.B. Davis, H.G. Davis, and P.I. Reed.

Official records on the appointment, resignation, and removal of state officers, railroad and special police, and corporate representatives. Archives include financial records of state agencies, executive meeting minutes, executive decrees, and documents relating to pardons, extraditions, and state convicts in county jails. Much information relates to charters and taxation of railroad companies. Also contains official state election returns and records concerning the reconstruction of the state capitol after the fire of 1921.
