This collection includes prints pertaining to West Virginia and the surrounding area. Many have been taken out of publications. Subjects include the U.S. Civil War; various WV cities, landscapes, and geographical features; and various local industries.

Appomattox Manor Music Collection 10.10 Linear Feet

The collection contains bound volumes and sheet music of the 19th century and early to mid 20th century. Appomattox Manor, near Hopewell, Virginia, has belonged to the Eppes family since 1635, when Captain Francis Eppes was granted a patent to the land. The Manor served as the headquarters of General Ulysses S. Grant during the Civil War. The home was restored and is open to the public. The collection contains both popular and classical music. Boxes 1 - 18 are bound volumes and sheet music. Box 19 is miscellaneous material including: children's books; poetry books; original index cards for Manor Music Hall library.

Woodward, A. P.

Records of A.P. Woodward, an apothecary or druggist from Greenwood, New York. Consists predominantly of an journal recording accounts with individuals for book, listing medical conditions and medications sold. The middle section of the volume is left blank but both the front and back part have been used. In addition, there are some loose items, 1886-1907, consisting of business correspondence, orders, receipts and bills, as well as advertisements for A.P. Woodward's products.

Autograph album of Miss Arah J. Evans of Monongalia County, West Virginia, containing poetry, devotions, and scriptural passages inscribed by her friends between 1849 and 1851. Some pages are blank while others have color illustrations of floral designs.

Arbogast family
Four photographic prints (three mounted; ca. 1890-1910) of group portraits of the Arbogast family as musicians (string and wind), and sheet music (1950) of three sacred songs (hymns) composed by Rev. P.W. Arbogast of Enterprise, West Virginia (WV) with others. Most of the subjects in the photos are identified by annotations on their backs. There are also two photocopied pages of Arbogast biographies from a reference book (source unattributed).

This collection contains sheet music for vocal arrangements, piano scores, opera librettos and sacred songs by Chopin, Bach, Schubert, and Haydn, and other classical composers, as well as popular songs of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Campbell, Archibald W.
Papers of Archibald W. Campbell (1839-1899), editor of the Wheeling Daily Intelligencer. A strong unionist and Republican Party member, he worked hard through his editorials and behind the scenes in order to support the formation of the new state of West Virginia. The collection includes correspondence, clippings, ephemera, and scrapbooks dealing with the Civil War and political affairs in West Virginia's early statehood period. Some of the correspondence asks Campbell to publish specific accounts of events or rebuttals of others, showing the importance of the newspapers in shaping public perception. Correspondents include family members, Jacob B. Blair, Cassius M. Clay, Sherrard Clemens, B.F. Kelley, Francis H. Pierpont, John C. Underwood, and others.
