Collection includes letters, 11 December 1868-18 February 1869 and 1877, of O'Ferrall's first wife, Annie McLain Hand O'Ferrall ; his brothers, R.H. O'Ferrall, and I. Frank O'Ferrall, and his cousin, F. K. O'Ferrall.

Letters discuss politics, family life in Virginia, religion, and other topics. Also includes a 1931 invitation to the unveiling of the bust of James Madison at Richmond, Va. and photographs of the Madison bust.

Topics include abolition of slavery, Mexican War, information and reports about the Civil War, Army register for 1858, annual reports for railroads and banks, historical paper on Christ Church in Norfolk, Virginia (1878), Governor Pierpoint's address to "People of Virginia" (May 19, 1865) and more. This collection appears to be material purposely removed from larger bound reports. Many of the topics relate to matters that concern Virginia and other southern states.
