Three undated flyers publicizing the fifth edition of "The Old Virginia Gentleman and Other Sketches" by Dr. George W. Bagby. Flyer announcing lecture by Dr. George W. Bagby -- "Movis Addams" in the Town Hall, Salem, undated. Newspaper article about the "Miscellaneous Writings" of the late Dr. George W. Bagby, undated. July 7, 1901 issue of the Farmer and Mechanic newspaper from Raleigh, N.C., Volume XVI, Number 35 with an article on "Ensign Worth Bagley." Financial papers, including a 1904 telephone service contract, YMCA Hall contract for 1891, and life insurance checks/receipts and invoices. Correspondence including an 1893 letter from H.H. Downing to Mrs. Park C. Bagby saying he cannot request anything of the Governor-elect because "it would only incline him to do the opposite," an invitation to see "Mistress Marion Harland" at the Governor's Mansion...in 1892, and a note from Juliet Lee. Ephemera includes a devotion booklet; undated printed flyer of football cheers for the Annapolis vs. West Point game; 1893 flyer for the "Memorial Bazaar" in Richmond, Virginia; Ice Mission donation slips, receipts and newspaper articles; and newspaper article on sermon about Southern Valor and Womanhood by Bishop Randolph at the Ladies' Memorial Service at St. Paul's. Handwritten poetry, some original, some not original.

Collection includes papers, 1656-1848, concerning Essex County, Va. including land records and wills, many of which relate to the Rowzee family. Many of the records date from the seventeenth century.

Correspondence, bonds, and accounts of Jacob Baker of Monongalia County, West Virginia and Nelson Baker and Jonathan W. Baker of Alleghany County, Maryland. Includes letters written from Washington, Iowa, Piedmont, West Virginia, and from Missouri as well as letters written by a student at St. John's College, Annapolis, Maryland.

Records of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, consisting of five telegrams (1864), one letter with envelope (1863), one freight conductor's report (May 17, 1862, between Piedmont and Grafton), and small map of the Railroad (ca. 1853 - 1863). There is also a letterpress copybook for correspondence of B.L. Jacobs, an employee of the Railroad writing from the Grafton station (43 pages for April to August, 1858). A telegram to Colonel George R. Latham regards an arrest (ca. 1864), and a telgram to Colonel John Ely (August 17, 1864) asks the question of whether a slave of a loyal man in West Virginia can act as a substitute for another "without the master's consent." The copybook includes a letter regarding the wreck of engine 125 (page 61, April 20, 1858).

This collection consists of ten pieces of Bank of Rockbridge currency dated 1857-1862 and one Lexington lottery ticket dated 1803. The currency includes bills in the amount of five, ten, and twenty dollars between 1857-1859. The 1861 bill is for two dollars, and the 1862 bill is for one dollar and twenty-five cents.

Four separate letters directed to Catholic Priests in various localities in Cuba asking for the Baptism of children of enslaved individuals. One letter asks for Baptism from an emancipated man by the direction of Public Works for the state. Translations provided.

The scrapbook is a genealogical compendium of the Welsh family of Rockbridge County, Virginia and their descendants and includes many family photographs and documents.
