Dated 1806-1878. Business and legal papers of John H. Wood, constable of Louisa County, VA. Included are a receipt for $0.76 which he paid for 138 acres of land, that being taxes due; the papers of William J., David, and Charles W. Wood; and papers of Charles Vest, Albemarle County. Also contains personal letters with economic and political comments.

Collection includes three certificates issued to Woodson C. Moody, while a student at William & Mary. He attended 1836-1838, 1846-1847. The earliest certificate is dated July 4, 1837 and acknowledges Moody's success "to the studies of Belles Lettres, Logic and Moral Philosophy." It is signed by faculty members Thomas Dew, Dabney Browne, Robert Saunders, Beverley Tucker, and John Millington. It features the Temple seal. The second certificate is dated July 4, 1838 and acknowledges Moody's success "to the study of National Law." It is signed by the same faculty members as the 1837 certificate and also features the Temple seal. The third certificate is dated July 4, 1847. It acknowledges his success "to the studies of Political Economy and Metaphysics." It is signed by faculty members Robert Saunders, Beverley Tucker, John Millington, and Charles Minnegerode. It features the Temple seal.

Papers of the Woolfolk family of Caroline County, Virginia including correspondence and accounts of John George Woolfolk, Jourdan Woolfolk, Pichegru Woolfolk and John William Woolfolk. The collection includes correspondence, accounts and vouchers for the stage line run by the Woolfolk family (Allen & Woolfolk; Jourdan Woolfolk & Company; and Woolfolk & Hoomes). Includes records of routes, rates, supplies, arrangements for layover of passengers and mail contracts of the Potomac Steamboat and Stage Company as well as papers concerning stock purchases in the Richmond, Fredericksburg, and Potomac Railroad. Also includes bound account books for the stage lines. Note: Includes letters written by James Lyons, Timothy Pickering, Robert Ryland and Benjamin Waller; letters of and accounts concerning members of the Maury family; and lists, 1829 and 1837, of vaccinated slaves. Lot 2 consists of about 6000 pieces of papers of the Woolfolk Family of Caroline County, Virginia, dated 1793-1876. There are financial records relating to the stage line and mail service, records relating to agricultural business, correspondence, insurance records, military records, records relating to the erection of Antioch Baptist Church, and copies of newspapers.

Correspondence of Will Tomlinson, a newspaper publisher in southern Ohio, his wife Eliza Wylie Tomlinson, and their children Sarah Isabella Tomlinson and William Byers Tomlinson, as well as other family members, friends, and colleagues.

Papers of the Yancey family of Woodville, Rappahannock County, Va. and Culpeper County, Va. Includes letters, 1844-1873 and accounts, chiefly 1834-1853. Concerns John W. Yancey, William T. Yancey, James P. Yancey and the estate of Major Yancey. There is a letter, 1844, of Charles Yancey of Tennessee concerning his administration of the Craven estate. The Craven will designated the New York Colonization Society as the legatee, but the will was broken. This collection also contains material relative to slavery.

The Zechariah Johnston papers includes personal, business, political correspondence to and from Zechariah Johnston. Correspondents include family members and notable Virginians of his era. The collection also includes correspondence received by Thomas and James Johnston. In addition to correspondence, the collection includes resolutions, bills, petitions, and notices of or concerning the Virginia Assembly during Johnston's tenure as a delegate from Augusta County (1778-1792) and Rockbridge County (1797-1798). This includes Johnston's copy of an unsigned manuscript draft titled "Memorial and Remonstrance" by James Madison concerning religious freedom and his arguments for separation of church and state. There are also deeds and property descriptions, tax rolls, business and account records, including documents pertaining to enslaved persons owned by Johnston; business and accounting records (1796-1845) of Thomas Johnston, a son of Zechariah Johnston, two letters from William Graham, first rector of Liberty Hall Academy, to Zechariah Johnston, and the will and estate inventory of Ann Johnston. Other highlights include student notes or lectures from Liberty Hall Academy, a poem to reverends William Graham and Samuel Houston, and a petition from Augusta County residents to the Virginia Assembly regarding fishing rights in the South River. There are ephmeral items as well.
